Ascending, Horizontal and Descending Verse Structure

Ascending
verseI myself will pasture my sheep; .
I myself will give them rest, says the Lord God.
  1. The lost I will seek out, .

  2. the strayed I will bring back, .

  3. the injured I will bind up, .

  4. the sick I will heal, .

  5. but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, .

  6. shepherding them rightly.


Horizontal
Parallelism

Any two lines of Scripture that "echo" and expand upon the sense contained within the other.

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, .
because the Lord has anointed me;
He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, .
to heal the brokenhearted, .
to proclaim liberty to the captives .
and release to the prisoners, .
to announce a year of favor from the Lord .
and a day of vindication by our God.

Descending
.
  1. For taking thought of wisdom is the perfection of prudence, .

  2. and whoever for her sake keeps vigil .

  3. shall quickly be free from care; .

  4. Because she makes her own rounds, .

  5. seeking those worthy of her, .

  6. and graciously appears to them in the ways, .

  7. and meets them with all solicitude.
